A carpenter is the tradesperson who might just be the handiest one to have in your phone book.
Auckland has a history of great carpentry works. Sir John Logan Campbell was one of the men behind the famous Acacia Cottage, one of Auckland’s first buildings. We have the beautiful Gothic inspired homes like Highwic that have been well loved and are still standing proud today.
Did you know that even A.J. Hackett, our bungy jump inventing brethren was a carpenter by trade?

Projects that a carpenter is qualified to work on
Carpenters in New Zealand are more like builders. They don’t just work with timber materials, they can also work with steel, ply board, concrete, and more. They can help you through from the initial stages of planning a new home right along to maintenance and repairs on old homes.
They measure and cut raw materials, use a range of power tools, can make furniture and outdoor structures, build walls and stairs and follow blueprints.
A carpenter may have received a three to four year apprenticeship by studying for the National Certificate in Carpentry and may be a member of the Certified Builders Association of New Zealand.
How much will it cost to hire a carpenter?
Carpenter’s rates depend on experience. At present, the cost to hire a carpenter is on average around $49 per hour in Auckland, but this figure may go up or down. From there you will have to factor in the cost of materials for the job too.
Ask your carpenter about what materials are best to use for your specific situation.
