Plumbers In Wellington For All Your Tap, Pipe And Septic Tank Issues

Wellington is a beautiful, albeit very windy city. There is no better place to experience the wind in full force than the Majestic Centre.

Standing over 100 metres tall, with over 30 floors the Majestic Centre is Wellington’s tallest standing structure. A lesser known fact about the place is that it also boasts Wellington’s highest toilet, which of course means some serious plumbing work.

Local plumbers, of course, have the fun job of making sure toilets all around the city are operating correctly, yes even the dreaded job at Westpac Stadium after a full capacity night.

A plumbers game

Fixing clogged up and broken toilets is what a lot of people think plumbers do all the time, hence the colloquial name ‘dunny divers’ – but we assure you it’s not all they do.

Around Wellington, plumbers are responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipe fittings that generally relate to either drinking water or waste water disposal. Of course with new technology plumbers can also be involved in gas fitting work (if they have the necessary training).

You should brush up on your legal requirements in regards to plumbing. Did you know that the only jobs that you can DIY are changing seals, ball valves and washers, installing dishwashers and washing machines with existing pipes and replacing taps? Everything else requires the services of a plumber.

Hard working plumbers in Wellington are always in demand and when you’re looking to hire one for a job you will want to make sure they’re qualified and licenced. Qualification takes 4 years and lasts you a life time, where as licences need to be renewed periodically. Plumbers must be certified to legally work on your property. Ask your plumber for their certification card.

Costs of plumbing

Local plumbers generally charge by the hour, and on average the price is around $83 per hour in the Wellington area. Of course this does not include all materials and if you have pricier kitchen and bathroom fittings then it can become more expensive, particularly if parts are scarcer.

Finding the right person

We all know just how irritating a dripping tap can be and most of us are too lazy to fix it ourselves. So where do we go to find a good plumber in Wellington? Builderscrack of course - a user friendly website where you can post a job for prospective local plumbers in your area to complete.

Simply write in your area, what the job entails, any specific materials that may be needed, a picture if you have one and finally when the job needs to be completed by.

Once posted – plumbers can apply to complete the job. You can view their reputation online, check references/testimonials and of course request them for a quote, easy as that!

Homes On Show - Save My Bathroom

Behind every job there is a story. This one starts with a homeowner, and a vision to renovate her bathroom from an outdated 1970’s relic to a modern, clean, and functional bathroom. The Dilemma The story starts with Joanne and her first tradie, a referral from a friend. The tradie seemed great. The homeowner and the tradie agreed that Joanne would buy everything that was needed for the bathroom, and the tradie gave her a cost to install and renovate to her plan. Fast forward three months and the tradie was nowhere to be seen and uncontactable. With the goods for her bathroom waiting in Mitre 10 and a loan taken out for the project, Joanne was desperate to get the job underway. The Solution “I spoke to someone at work, saying I didn’t know what to do. I needed to have my bathroom renovated, and my colleague said, have you put it on Builderscrack? Then they showed me how Builderscrack works, how to log on and use the site. I put the advert on the next day, and within two

Replace dripping shower mixer

Posted 1 week ago

We have an elderly shower mixer which has a drip. We're pretty sure the mixer needs replacing. We would be really keen for this to be done on the afternoon on Wednesday 20th, or at least for you to start that afternoon as we'll be home. In the photos you'll see the mixer, and also the slightly odd combination of a mixer, and above it a tap which controls whether the water comes out both shower heads or just the one. We think it's the mixer that is the problem. You'll also see that our (inh...

A tap for a currently unused water tank

Posted 5 days ago

We have a water tank that is currently not connected to the house (we have a larger water tank that we use for the house, connected with a pump system). We want to be able to use this spare tank for outside jobs - so want to find the outlet and get a tap put onto it if possible. We are not sure where the outlet is- but there is a small hose end that might be connected to it. Some digging around the tank may be required - there are also some old roses that we would remove if needed for access....

Replace hot water cylinder from 1990 in ceiling

Posted 2 days ago

I'd like a quote for replacing a hot water cylinder that is near failing. The hot water cylinder is installed in the roof of the upper flat of a 2-storey villa build 1906. The hot water cylinder is above the ceiling of the bathroom. The flat has 2 bedrooms. The hot water cylinder thermostat no longer is providing the indicated temperature, and there is significant rust around the thermostat area, so I'm expecting a failure to occur in the near-term. Access to the ceiling is through a trap-...
