Shower is not regulating temperature

Our shower is only giving extremely hot water so we are unable to have showers. It seems the temperature is not being regulated. Other taps in the house all have cold water function except shower. The pipes from the hot water cylinder run past the fire in the wall. When the fire is on, the shower becomes extra hot with no cold water to bring the temperature down.
