Homes On Show - Save My Bathroom

Behind every job there is a story. This one starts with a homeowner, and a vision to renovate her bathroom from an outdated 1970’s relic to a modern, clean, and functional bathroom. The Dilemma The story starts with Joanne and her first tradie, a referral from a friend. The tradie seemed great. The homeowner and the tradie agreed that Joanne would buy everything that was needed for the bathroom, and the tradie gave her a cost to install and renovate to her plan. Fast forward three months and the tradie was nowhere to be seen and uncontactable. With the goods for her bathroom waiting in Mitre 10 and a loan taken out for the project, Joanne was desperate to get the job underway. The Solution “I spoke to someone at work, saying I didn’t know what to do. I needed to have my bathroom renovated, and my colleague said, have you put it on Builderscrack? Then they showed me how Builderscrack works, how to log on and use the site. I put the advert on the next day, and within two

Waste water pump issue

Posted 2 weeks ago

We have a sleepout with an ensuite bathroom which sits at a lower level than our septic tank so the toilet and waste water relies on a pump to pump it up to the septic tank. It appears this pump is not working properly because the toilet is not flushing and water has back flowed into the shower. Unsure if a fault or just clogged? Photo attached of pump box behind toilet. Also the water pressure in the basin and shower is very poor. I think this has something to do with an underbench water heate...

Drainage issue - flooding of sleepout

Posted 2 weeks ago

Hi, we have a double garage that has been converted to a self contained sleepout by the previous owners. We are having problems with flooding when we get very heavy downpours. The drainage can’t keep up and the water rises up behind the sleepout and comes up over the slab. I suspect the drainage once did an adequate job but has become clogged and less effective over the years. I’m not sure if the drainage needs to be redone or just unblocked. We are looking to be guided by your expertise. Ultima...

Vent a rangehood chimney through roof

Posted 6 days ago

We're going to put a new rangehood in our kitchen and need it vented outside. This needs to be done up through the roof as it's not on an external wall and there's no ceiling cavity. The roof is metal long run and is almost flat, so it would need a chimney installed with waterproofing. I've been told this might work a plumber would do because of the flashing/waterproofing required. The photo attached shows the existing rangehood which just recirculates the air.
