Hi, I'm Jay, a fully qualified Cabinet Maker and Installer servicing the greater Wellington Area.

I enjoy creating unique, quality pieces that fit perfectly in your interior space.

I hold a NZ Certificate in Joinery, a Diploma of Building and construction and offer a full design to installation service.

We collaborated with the clients to design, fabricate, and install a one-off custom unit for their record player setup. Every measurement was carefully considered to ensure their vinyl collection would slide effortlessly into the built-in compartments, while the overall design maintained cohesion with the home’s existing architectural details. With tricky access via a private cable car, the piece was engineered to be delivered in modular sections. It slotted together seamlessly on-site using concealed Lamello Clamex and Tenso connectors, ensuring a rock-solid, clean finish without visible fixings. Construction Details: * 18mm European Birch plywood, custom-stained with matching edge detail * Lamello Clamex & Tenso hardware for tool-free, hidden joinery * Finished with Resene Aquaclear Satin (water-based polyurethane)

A full renovation from design to execution. The client brief was a sunny and fun space for their home office with a minimalist storage solution. During the design consultation, we wanted to create a bright and playful space for their home office where they work full time. As this was the space where they spend majority of their day, we had to consider the extra wear and traffic that the space would take compared to a regular residential room. We opted for a premium finish while carefully selecting cost-effective products to ensure the project stayed within budget. The first step was to remove dated carpet for a warm oak floor (cappuccino oak) to create a great foundation as we introduced colours and textures to the space. We were lucky the space benefits from an abundance of natural light so we selected a soft blue and classic warm white paint combination next (it always looks deeper when it goes on a large surface area!) and tidied up the cracks and prepped the walls, ceilings and windows. Next I designed and manufactured American White Oak cabinets with a handleless push-to-open detail. The design was inspired by minimalist Japanese and Scandinavian or "Japandi" design. The cabinets were stained with a custom brown/oak to remove pink tones and compliment the flooring. Sealed with a hardwax and bufffed to a satin finish. Finally the skirting was replaced to match the rest of the property.

We chose Hodge House Interiors because Josh Hodgson demonstrated detailed knowledge of the job in hand which was to fit shelves over cupboards on either side of the fireplace in an old house where none of the walls/floor are square. Josh went to a great deal of trouble to ensure that we were happy with every stage of the project, and we would use Hodge House Interiors again.

Jay was excellent to work with. He worked hard to get this done during the busy end of year period. Although we didn’t quite make pre-Christmas I had told him I was flexible and he worked diligent to make up for a small mishap which set things back. Had this not happened I’m confident his timelines were bang on. He also worked hard to keep costs down and find the happy medium between cost and quality that I was after for this custom piece. We are happy with the result.

Josh fixed a kitchen cabinetry issue created by the changing of the oven from a non standard height to a standard height which created a significant gap in the joinery. Fantastic company to work with. Communication was swift and job delivered on schedule and for a very reasonable price. Couldn't recommend Hodge House Interiors enough.

Josh did cabinet alterations at my place to fit an oversized fridge.Excellent craftsman with a strong attention to detail. Reasonably priced.Communication was clear and consistent throughout the project making the entire process smooth and professional. Highly recommend.

Josh built us shelving units to fit either side of our fireplace, and did a wonderful job. He understood exactly what we wanted, and made suggestions as to the best way to do it and which lighting would be most effective. Our house is old and nothing is "square" but be made everything fit perfectly and was meticulous in making sure it was right. He cleaned up thoroughly after each day's work.
