Living the Dream: Geoff Converted This '86 School Bus Into a Home-on-Wheels

It's an unconventional story about home reno, dating and travelling NZ. On a foggy Christchurch morning, Mary and Geoff are cosily seated in the living room of what once was a Ritchies school bus. Geoff gets up to welcome me through the manual folding door and I’m immediately greeted by the warmth from inside. The 11 metre vehicle is now home to Geoff, a luxury tour bus driver who has made it his mission to convert the 1986 Hino Blue Ribbon into a house bus fit for travel. The border closures have left Geoff without work, but he’s chosen to see the silver lining. From touring with bus loads of people to now just two, Geoff says with time on his side, he is most looking forward to the freedom. “Just the freedom to stop and explore,” Geoff says. Travelling with him is companion Mary, a retired teacher of 53 years and Vice President of the Christchurch North Community Patrol, who says it will be nice to have some peace and quiet on the road. “And yet I can still run t

Cork floor #2

Posted 6 months ago

I have cork tiles in kitchen, dining room, hallway and bathroom. These need to be sanded back, patched in one area, and then re-varnished with at least four coats. I want to know if it is worth it financially and hassle wise, or if I should just put vinyl planks over it all. Possibly may also consider getting cork in the living room instead of carpet if it is worth getting it all fixed. Sadly what I have had put down several years ago is not in great condition now - the cork at my parents' h...

Lino laying

Posted 4 months ago

Kia ora - my elderly mum has some new lino that needs laying in her kitchen. We've bought the lino it should be enough, leaving a short gap down one side (which we will fill with some offcut grey lino to match). There are floorboards underneath which are a bit uneven, but if we can we'd like to do the job without laying a substrate - so we'd like a quote with/without substrate thanks.

Lay some vinyl sheeting in small bathroom and laundry

Posted 4 months ago

I need a handy man or vinyl layer to lay some sheet vinyl in a small bathroom (1.5 x1.7m) and a small laundry (1.5 x 2.4m.) I have already rough cut the vinyl to size so it just needs the fine cutting done. My weak girl hands couldn't hold the tool with one hand and keep the other hand steady to cut straight with the other - it looked easy on Youtube! The floor is prepared and once fine cut to size this vinyl sheeting just needs double sided tape to adhere to the floor. I've got all the mate...
