From Sydenham to Cashmere and the Parklands to Avonhead, Christchurch is the meanest city of the South! The New Zealand wide news is that Christchurch sticks together, and has some great sights such as the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Cathedral Square and the ferries at Christchurch Quay. The Avon River is also known by its Maori name – Ōtākaro.
Since we’re talking about flooring contractors in Christchurch did you know the Maori name for floor covering installer is Kaiwhakauru Uhi? The more you know!
What can a flooring contractor do for you?
For tiled floors, some flooring contractors know the ropes, but others do not. You might like to check in with a Tiler instead.
Flooring professionals may or may not have attained a National Certificate in Flooring from the National Flooring School. The course may cover substrate penetration, tough flooring installation (like vinyl and rubber), sanding and finishing, flooring planning and design, carpet installation and timber overlay installation.
What does a flooring job cost?
If you are after flooring removal, this will only need to include the labour cost (and associated tools) along with the cost to remove the old flooring from your property. For 70 metres squared of carpet and underlay this will cost around $800 to $1,600. For vinyl covering the same area would cost around $1,500 to $2,600. For concrete the price jumps to around $4,900 to $11,700.
Floor installation will cost whatever the price of the materials are plus the labour involved with installing it. Hardwood floorboards are a popular choice – for native hardwoods this will cost between $6,600 and $12,300 for the same 70 metres squared, and non-native hardwoods will be around $6,300 to $10,900.
If you’d like to get carpet layed along with underlay this will cost around $2,700 to $5,900. For a vinyl floor, which is popular due to lower costs, it will be around $2,400 to $4,400.
To post a flooring job on Builderscrack
First, gather up the information on your situation. This will include facts like the size of the area for flooring removal and/or flooring installation along with the material you’d like to use - or some options you were thinking of. For an urgent request, include a date that you would like the job completed by. Remember that for larger flooring projects, or projects that involve having the varnish dry on your floorboards you will need to factor in more time, and may even need to stay in temporary accommodation.
Once your ad has been posted, just sit back and wait for the tradies to chase your job. Make sure that you get your potential contractor to visit your place to view the area first and produce a written quote outlining the materials, labour and removal (if any) costs involved in the job.
