After four weeks, Char & Violet finally handed their Murrays Bay home over to the teams. And, not only was it the last full home renovation of the season, but it was also the largest.

The mother and daughter duo knew a thing or two about renovating before entering Three’s House Rules NZ. They had watched Char’s dad renovate the childhood home and had previously dabbled in design.

They considered their home to be on one of the nicest streets in Auckland, but felt it was missing that ‘wow’ factor.

Let’s see if the teams turned that around in a week.

Transforming the heart of the home

This week the teams carried out bathroom renovations, window and skylight installations, wall relocations, and a complete overhaul of Char & Violet’s kitchen.

Here’s 10 tips from KJ and Brando on carrying out a kitchen makeover:

  • Plan the layout to optimize workflow and minimize unnecessary steps.

  • Invest in high-quality, durable materials for long-lasting performance.

  • Consider the functionality of storage solutions to maximise space.

  • Consider lighting for both task and ambience.

  • Choose a colour scheme that suits your style and creates atmosphere.
  • Incorporate efficient and energy-saving appliances.

  • Use protective paints or backsplashes to protect walls and add a focal point to your kitchen.

  • Balance aesthetics and practicality when choosing your countertop material.

  • Consider your ventilation options to ensure a fresh and healthy space.

  • Consult with professionals to ensure proper installation and adherence to building codes.
