All dad jokes aside, Aucklanders really are the luckiest in the country. The best restaurants in Auckland, like St Heliers Bay Bistro, Ebisu and Clooney are mere footsteps away, the Auckland city library is stocked to the brim with history, and the Auckland harbour bridge is so cool that the Auckland bridge bungy is right up on people’s top lists of activities in Auckland.
It’s also true that we’ve got a great variety of tradies available to do our jobs around the house that need doing. Whether you’re after a new floor installation, carpet removal, complete floor restoration or floorboard repairs, put up an ad for a flooring specialist in Auckland on BuildersCrack to find your perfect tradesperson.
What does a professional floorer know how to do?
Is a flooring professional registered with any overseeing body?
The simple answer is no.
Flooring contractors do not need to be professionally accredited, however some may have completed their trade certificate. The trade certificate for flooring is called the National Certificate in Flooring and is studied at the National Flooring School in Christchurch. The course has six strands so a person may either study flooring planning and design, timber overlay installation, resilient flooring installation (other surfaces including cork, vinyl, rubber…), fine sanding and finishing, carpet installation or substrate preparation.
If you want a flooring contractor who has studied the field in depth, ask if they have obtained their certificate. Of course, a contractor with many years’ experience may have the same amount of in-depth knowledge of their field.
How much will my flooring cost?
If you want to have your current flooring removed, it can cost as little as $40 to $90 for 5 metres squared of carpet (without underlay), and goes up to $7,000 to $16,700 for 100 metres squared of concrete.
For new flooring, you’re going to be looking at $1,100 to $4,300 for 30 metres squared of carpet, $2,000 to $3,900 for 30 metres squared of laminate, and $2,800 to $4,400 for 30 metres squared of concrete.
Price ranges vary according to the material used in the flooring and the relative ease or difficulty of installing it.
What should my ad say?
They say the devil is in the details, but for this you want to make everything as clear as possible. Detail the size of the area you want done, whether it includes removal as well as covering, what materials you want to use (and whether you’ve already purchased them), whether you have a timeframe in mind you’d like it completed by, and if you’re concerned, a minimum number of years’ experience you’d like your contractor to have.
