Set within a rural Bay of Plenty site, this minor dwelling (granny flat) is designed as a dual-purpose space that functions as both a home office and secondary accommodation. The building responds to the natural slope with a simple, efficient form, while a palette of dark metal and natural cedar shiplap creates a cohesive relationship with the existing dwelling. Thoughtfully planned and highly adaptable, the design demonstrates how small-scale architecture can deliver flexible, high-quality living in a rural setting.

Minor Dwelling (Granny Flat) in Halswell, Christchurch

Set within a suburban Halswell site, this minor dwelling (granny flat) is designed as a private, self-contained home. Positioned discreetly behind the existing dwelling, the building is carefully arranged to maintain privacy, with openings strategically placed to control outlook and natural light. A restrained grey palette establishes a cohesive relationship with the main dwelling, while allowing the new addition to sit quietly within its context.

New Residence in Pukekohe, Auckland

A single-storey, three-bedroom home with an internal single garage, set within a suburban subdivision. Designed for a compact site, the layout prioritizes efficiency and functional flow to maximize usable space. A refined material palette of brick, cedar, and fibre cement weatherboards, paired with dark metal long-run roofing, creates a clean, contemporary expression. Underground retention and detention tank systems support a sustainable approach to water management.

House Relocation - Kaikohe, Northland

The project sustainably relocates and reuses the second storey of an existing Auckland house, giving the building a new life within a new community in Kaikohe, Northland, rather than demolishing the structure due to flood-zone constraints. The relocated home includes a restored and reclad front entrance and a new outdoor deck, strengthening its connection with the new site while retaining key elements of the original building. Unveil Architects provides full architectural services, including Building Consent documentation and coordination with structural, surveying and specialist house-moving consultants, demonstrating how relocation can reduce construction waste and extend the life of existing buildings.

Pool House in Devonport, Auckland

The proposed pool house forms part of a comprehensive backyard transformation, incorporating a new swimming pool and spa to create a cohesive outdoor living environment alongside the existing 1930s dwelling. Designed for future adaptability, the open-plan pavilion includes a bathroom and bar opening onto a spacious verandah, allowing it to function as both an entertainment space and potential self-contained dwelling. White shiplap cladding gives the simple, refined form a contemporary identity while complementing the character of the existing home.

House Extension - Remuera, Auckland

This project delivers a two-storey extension to a 1960s cross-lease dwelling, maximizing the permitted building envelope while avoiding resource consent and maintaining neighbouring sunlight access. Inspired by the surrounding bush, textured black timber cladding, concrete-like finishes, and existing white brickwork create a bold yet cohesive architectural expression, complemented by warm timber elements and carefully positioned openings for light, views, and privacy. The extension adds two generous bedrooms, a workshop, and expansive living and kitchen spaces, providing a contemporary, well-integrated home for a growing family.
