Wellington Insulation Professionals You Can Trust

Installing insulation in existing homes is currently one of the most common property improvements undertaken. With many Wellington insulation installers offering both their services and the products themselves, who can you actually trust to do the job properly and use the right type of insulation?

Standards Required Of Insulation Professionals

While you can install your own insulation in your ceiling, underfloor and walls, using a professional insulation installer makes the process quicker and gives you peace of mind that the job has been done correctly.

All insulation installations must meet the required standard; NZS 4246:2006 (NZS 4246:2006 Installing Insulation in Residential Buildings)Installing Insulation in Residential Buildings. All insulation professionals located within the Wellington region will need to have a solid understanding and fully comply with this standard when doing either an insulation retro fit or for a new build.

Members of the Insulation Association of New Zealand (IAONZ) who have successfully completed the training on installing both ceiling and underfloor insulation will be listed on their online directory. IOANZ exists to help establish performance benchmarks for the supply and installation of insulation products within residential properties throughout New Zealand. Choosing an installer who is a member of this association provides you with the knowledge that you will be receiving a great product and service for your home.

Which Type Of Insulation Is Right For Your Home?

With the wide variety of insulation available on the market, choosing the best one for your home does require research. The types of insulation available include:

  • Glass Fibre – made from recycled glass and suitable for installing in ceilings, underfloor and in walls. Varying thicknesses are available for use in different parts of your home, with thicker types recommended for the Wellington climate which can get very cold in winter.
  • Reflective Foil – only suitable for underfloor insulation in existing homes as it does not meet the current building code for new builds. Use of a professional insulation installer is recommended because of the high risk of injury or damage if fitted incorrectly.
  • Polyester and Wool – suitable for use in ceilings, walls and underfloor but is more costly than glass fibre. Is new to the insulation product market, but preferred by some as it does not cause the irritations which glass fibres cause to skin.
  • Expanded Polystyrene  - made in specially manufactured flexible yet rigid sheets, expanded polystyrene can be used to insulate floors, ceilings and walls.
  • Loose Fill Insulation – must be installed by insulation professionals as it requires special machinery and knowledge to spray the loose fill. Is mostly used in ceilings but as it can be dusty, it is not recommended to be used in roof spaces where you want to store things.

Having a professionally insulated home will help keep your family warmer and drier and will also make it quicker and more effectively heated. Lower electricity bills are also an added bonus.  Arrange for a local Wellington installer to come and give you a quote on your insulation job today here at Builderscrack.

Sort out our ceiling insulation

Posted 1 month ago

Our ceiling insulation is somewhat sub par. At a guess the previous owners diy’d it and gave up 70% of the way through. There are also noticeable signs of rodents in the roof, with a bit of a smell that is noticeable in the house when the HRV is running. We’re looking to get the insulation sorted out. It’s probably ~80-100 square meters of ceiling space. Relatively accessible, with the corners being a tight squeeze but doable.
