I'm looking at repairing part of my fence. I had a fence post break off at ground level in the bad weather we recently had. I need someone to quote on removing and reattaching the corrugated iron and railings, then remove and renew two fence posts. One of these posts needs to have a gate re-attached to one side - which is temporarily helping hold up the fence with the assistance of a Waratah (see pics).

Looking for someone who can build a fence (approx 20m long and 1m high I think) attached along a garden retaining wall and down some stairs to make the garden safe for children to play. Also need 1 gate. Hoping for vertical timber dowels 90-100mm apart (the minimum for safety). Ready to get on with it rightaway and keen to have it done within the next 6-8 weeks. Will want a recent reference and previous experience. Thanks, Charlotte

Read moreHey, One of the doors to our large, old, wooden fence blew down in the storm last week and we need it repaired or, more likely, replaced. The remaining door is also snapped and partly broken so we are thinking a replacement of the doors/swinging gate components would be best, but are open to suggestions/recommendations - fixing is to the existing gate on one side and to the side of our garage on the other. Would love to have someone around to quote as soon as possible.

May need to be available as a Witness for a quick call during the hearing The land is on a sloping section, and the soil on the boundary line is likely to collapse when digging for fence posts. It does not have a retainer there, however the neighbours are just wanting to get this job done w...

Love them or hate them, if there’s one thing that is always shared between neighbours, it is your fence. When you need to install a new fence, a new gate, or simply make repairs on existing structures you need to find yourself a fencing and gate professional in Wellington.
Your garden might not look quite like the Wellington Botanic Gardens or Eden Garden, but keeping a smart boundary around your yard will help your house to be more secure and neaten the place up.
Fencing contractors know how to correctly build fences to stand strong against the high winds in Wellington that buffet the city.
What sort of jobs do fencing and gate contractors do?
They work with materials such as aluminium, wrought iron, steel and other metals, concrete, brick, wood (including pine) and trellis.
What do I need to consider?
If you are building a new fence you will want to look carefully at the style of your house and other houses in the street. Everywhere in the city is different: you may have art deco style, British colonial, or old weatherboard. Pick a fence style, material and colours to match the style of both your house and your neighbours. Make sure you decide on this together!
If you are after a new driveway gate then you will want to determine the material (metal is popular) and the style of opening mechanism you’d like to have. Manually opened? Spring loaded? An electric gate? Sliding gate? Think about what would work best for your space and for your budget.
How much will it cost?
This depends all on what the job is and the materials that are required.
For fencing, a 51 metre fence built 1.8 metres high will cost you around $12,500 to $24,000 in aluminium and between $5,400 to $17,000 in timber, depending heavily on whether it is painted. Remember, with fences you can often share the cost with your neighbour. To remove a 51 metre fence would cost generally between $2,000 to $3,900.
If you’re after a driveway gate it will cost between $920 and $6,100 depending on whether it is manually or automatically opened. Pathway gates will cost between $250 and $1,200, depending on the material used.
How do I hire them?
By putting up your project on Builderscrack you can have the contractor chase you to do your job. Include specifics about what you would like (or different options that you are considering) and the area that the project will involve.
You may receive a ballpark figure on the cost of the works (materials + manual labour time) but be sure to have the tradesman sight your property before agreeing to anything. You should receive a written quote before proceeding with works, and consider getting two or three quotes before starting work. If you are sharing the cost with your neighbour/s ensure they are also happy with the tradesperson you've selected and the final cost.
