Backyard safety: a secure yard for the family.
Babysitting just got easier for Allana, a Christchurch homeowner who has regular visits from her little niece, and Allana’s parents and their dog, Joey.
Having recently moved into her new property, Allana set out to ensure it met her family’s needs – and in this case, it meant having a secure yard.
The Problem
There were two parts to the problem: a small gap on one side of the house, and a privacy fence on the other made up of brick and greenery. While this landscape design added style to the property facade, the access to the road proved tricky to manage with two little ones on the go.
The Solution
With a fair idea in mind of what needed to be done, Allana posted her job on Builderscrack detailing the project scope. She was after a fencing solution that enhanced the backyard safety to allow peace of mind whenever they were in the backyard.
Choosing a Tradie
There were four tradies who were interested in the job, with two being granted contact. And within 48 hours, Allana had chosen the person for the job – Aaron from Hired Help.
“He had made contact within 2 hours of posting the job, and he came within 48 hours to meet onsite. He measured up the job, provided a quote within 24 hours and offered a start date for the following week,” says Allana.
When asked how Allana decided on the right tradie for the job, she said it was Aaron’s reviews that made him stand out from the crowd.
“While he had less reviews, they were all recent, and all 5 star. This was in comparison to the other tradespeople who had more reviews but spread over a longer period of time – they may have been in business longer, but I placed more emphasis on recent reviews,” says Allana.
The Job
The small gap of 150mm was filled with a rough sawn pine paling and fixed to the existing fence. On the other side of the house, a 1m wide fence standing 6ft tall was constructed and installed to replace the greenery. Aaron used the same pine timber as the existing wooden boundary fence to create a consistent look.
The Result
Allana now has a seamless fencing solution to keep her family safe. All that’s left to do is a splash of paint to match the charcoal shades of her home, something Allana says she’d love to do herself.
Allana’s Advice For Other Homeowners
Allana’s advice is to base your decision on reviews, style of communication and follow up; she mentions how Aaron had a personalised approach and responded in a timely manner.
“Had I only gone with one tradesperson, or a bigger company, it would have taken over a week to get a response,” says Allana.
Thoughts on The Tradie
“His communication and follow up was absolutely exceptional,” says Allana.
“I was really happy with meeting Aaron, and when he was there on site I asked questions about another project, and he was very knowledgeable.”
Thoughts on Builderscrack
After checking in with Allana once the project was complete, we were happy to hear that Allana was thrilled with the result, and shared that the project ended up being more affordable than first thought.
“I’ve already spoken to Aaron about helping us with a shed for the backyard,” says Allana.
