I take great care in working with you to create beautiful functional outdoor spaces - whether it's adding a deck to your garden, replacing a tired fence, giving your gate a makeover, or constructing custom planters, pergolas and privacy screens

Although I haven't followed a traditional path into the industry, with a degree in mathematics and a 20 year IT career behind me, I bring a detail oriented approach to designing and costing your project, and my problem solving skills and natural creativity are put to great use.

I believe in fairness and transparency, so I put in the work upfront to give you an accurate estimate of costs, and only charge for work carried out, often leading to my jobs coming in under budget and putting that money back in your pocket!

Whitby - Kwila Deck, Autumn '25

With a new cabin home in the back garden of this property, after completing a small deck to provide some outdoor living space to its new resident, we were soon invited back to connect that deck to the main property creating a seamless unified area. We had the foresight to base the height of the smaller deck on the floor height of the main property, allowing for step free flow out onto the new deck. The low level floating deck is supported by nurajacks anchored to the concrete patio. The slight angle between the cabin and the main property, along with the steeper angle following the boundary wall created some interesting challenges for constructing the framing, but the end result looks stunning and is absolutely beautiful in the rain! The job was finished off with a landscaped path to access the cabin, and a small step in the front porch to match

Raumati - Macrocarpa Fence and balustrade, Summer '25

Macrocarpa palings with a random waterfall topline to echo the decorative cladding on the property give this house in Raumati a unique look not really seen elsewhere. This is complemented by an extension to the macrocarpa balustrade along the shared driveway access to the rear section

Cambourne - Boundary Fence, Autumn '25

40m of rough sawn fencing with integrated low level retaining - challenges due to the steep sloped section and surrounding bush. Came in about 10% under budget based on the initial estimate

Khandallah - Garden Transformation, Summer '24-'25

An extensive transformnation of all aspects of the customers rear garden, estimated at around $30K and delivered for about $27K. The small tired deck was torn down to its bare bones and extended to double its original size, with integrated staircase and pergola. A decorative retaining wall was added to the front and rear of the lawn to section off the steep bush section at the rear and allow the customer to level off the lawn area at the front into a more useable space. An old damaged section of the boundary fence was replaced with some basic but tidy rough sawn palings, and to close off the garden a privacy screen with built in gate was erected in a matching style to the decorative screens and balustrade on the elevated deck

Ngaio - Winter '25

A decorative yet functional addition to the garden to conceal an ugly but structurally sound (despite the lean) concrete retaining wall. The customer's original brief was to build a tall screen in front of the wall obscuring all the brickwork, but I proposed a design that incorporated the brickwork as a unique feature, giving a one-of-a-kind final result. Integrated wood storage was added to make use of the void behind created by the lean of the wall, and the section of faux retaining that was built out to the boundary and originally intended to be open for green waste to be stored behind, was evolved during the course of the project into a dedicated two compartment compost bin complete with removable covers and access hatches. Unfortunately, this was one of the few projects where we went over budget compared to the original estimate - even discounting the additional work due to the changes in the design that were made along the way, the complexities of a site where nothing is square or plumb meant that the labour cost crept away from us. A discount was offered to the customer to alleviate some of the pain of the final bill, and lessons have been learned to try and improve the accuracy of quotes on similar jobs in the future
