Structural Engineering Design

Image 1. Structural assessment and strengthening design for an existing industrial building to 80%NBS. This project also included an extension with new office space. Image 2. Structural engineering design - SED wind zone - Bracing assessment and design for seismic and SED winds, gravity loading (rafters, beams, joists, bearers and connections) and foundations Image 3. New residential building - This house in the sky with its elevated floor plan cantilevered out over a valley with its technical subfloor with spans up to 9m and a 7.5m out over the valley. This building is also passive design certified using NZSips and carefully considered structural elements and connections minimizing any thermal bridging. Image 4. Building alteration and extension. Structural beams allowing the large open areas. Image 5. This what you can do with timber. The hub building is 2 storeys tall with approximately 1,000m 2 and is entirely of timber construction. The building consists of institutional areas such as teaching rooms, conference rooms, meeting rooms, staff working spaces and library area. The primary structure system comprises Glulam Columns and beams supporting Potius timber floor units. The lateral system comprises of concentric LVL bracing in both directions at the ground floor. The first floor comprises of concentric LVL bracing in one direction and glulam frames in the other direction. The timber braces provide an elegant lateral solution which can be tied into the building’s aesthetics which combined with the special connection system increase the resilience of the structure.
