COMMERCIAL

TE TUPE A commercial development housing multi-unit industrial complex consisting of concrete precast panels with steel roof braces. Each aspect of the development has been carefully crafted to harmonize with the surrounding environment while meeting the diverse needs of the industrial occupants. BRADFORD STREET Located in the heart of Paraparaumu, Bradford Street is a commercial development consisting of open retail, offices and storage. Essen Engineering undertook the detailed design of the structure consisting of precast panels and steel portal frames.

RESIDENTIAL

RANGIORA AVE A bespoke split level three story architectural house encompassing engineered ply braced walls and steel portal frames. Essen engineering undertook detailed design of the specific elements including foundations, retaining walls, lateral bracing, steel frames and steel rod balustrades. HOUSE 1,2 & 3 KAPITI COAST A residential development in Kapiti Coast consisting of three standalone timber framed houses. Essen Engineering undertook the detailed design and construction supervision of the structural aspects of the building. VIEW ROAD A three-story hybrid concrete shear wall and steel portal frame structure. The client brief required a slender box structure with concrete insulated panels where all steel elements were hidden from view. Essen Engineering undertook the detailed design of the structure. The building is currently in construction stage. NAVIGATION DRIVE A passive hybrid timber/ steel frame house on masonry shear walls. The aesthetics required a significant cantilever which was achieved structurally using steel beams, cross braces and steel struts.

COMMUNITY

OTARAUA PARK Otaraua Park is an upcoming community development in Otaihanga, marked by two key structures: the Clubroom Pavilion and the Amenities Block. The Clubroom Pavilion boasts a timber portal frame structure complemented by lightweight timber bracing. In contrast, the Amenities Block features a robust masonry shear wall construction. The buildings are interconnected through an aluminum pergola. Essen Engineering has undertaken detailed structural design and documentation of the two buildings. OKAUTETE MARAE The Okautete Marae is an upcoming Wharetipuna community building in Masterton. The structure is predominantly a light timber braced wall building with steel beams supported on a reinforced concrete foundation. Essen Engineering have undertaken a detailed design of the project.

EDUCATION

SACRED HEART COLLEGE The Sacred Heart College (SHC) Community Hub stands as a remarkable project, embodying principles of sustainability through its innovative design and use of mass timber construction. With a footprint spanning two stories and a generous gross floor area of 1200m2, the building predominantly features braced LVL timber structural frames. Essen Engineering was engaged as structural engineers to the project where our role involved provide structural design, documentation, and construction monitoring services. TE KURA KAUPAPA MAORI O TE RITO Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rito features a state-of-the-art classroom design, incorporating timber portal frames for both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The exterior deck design seamlessly integrates with the open plan layout, creating a versatile and multi-use space for various activities. Essen Engineering carried out detailed structural design of the building.

Building Strengthening

SACRED HEART OLD LIBRARY Essen Engineering undertook detailed seismic assessment, strengthening and construction supervision for the Sacred Heart old library while incorporating the new architectural layout. The structured was made of Steel/ concrete hybrid frame with steel and light timber wall bracing. Strengthening was undertaken to 60%NBS with upgrading works encompassing strengthening of frames/ cross braces and increasing capacity of the diaphragms using Fiber Reinforced Polymer wrap. HOLLAND CRESCENT A hybrid steel frame and masonry shear wall building originally built around the 1940’s. Essen Engineering carried out a detailed seismic assessment and strengthening of the building to minimum 80% NBS. Strengthening exercise encompassed introducing X-braced frames and upgrading the roof diaphragm & foundations.
