Fix seal between washing machine hose and tap please!

The cold water hose on our washing machine does not have a tight seal where it screws on to the tap, so water is constantly leaking and causing damage to our floor because the floor is always damp. Also need thermostat turned down on water cylinder, last plumber turned it up but it's too hot with small children in the house!
