Grind concrete fire hearth down to lay additional t&g

Have 1x0.4m concrete hearth that needs to be ground down sufficiently to allow tongue and groove floorboards to be laid to match up with existing floorboards ... Carpet is currently covering entire floor. The hearth is currently flush with the existing floorboards. But will need to be ground down to a level to allow the floorboards to be laid flush.
