We are leaving this review to warn other homeowners and trades to be very careful when dealing with Phoenix Renovations. We worked with this company as a subcontractor (trade). Our work was completed as agreed, but we were not paid. We followed up many times through calls and messages, trying to resolve it professionally. Each time there were new excuses (such as being unwell, overseas, or “payment is coming”), but the outcome never changed — still no payment and no clear resolution. Eventually, communication stopped and it became extremely difficult to get any response at all. This situation has caused major stress and financial impact to our small business. Tradies put in real labour, materials, and time — and when a contractor doesn’t pay, it doesn’t just hurt the trade, it can also hurt homeowners who are stuck in the middle. To homeowners: please protect yourself. Before paying any deposit or starting work, make sure you: Confirm the legal entity and registration details (don’t rely on a website/trading name only). Have a clear written contract and payment schedule. Ask for proof that subcontractors are being paid (especially if you want warranties and after-care). To other tradies: please be cautious with your cashflow. Get everything in writing, lock in payment terms, and don’t keep progressing work if payments are overdue. We genuinely feel sorry for any clients and tradies who have had to deal with this. In our experience, this company has been a nightmare to work with once money is involved, and we would not recommend them.

!!! Please be aware, whether you are a customer or a subcontractor, that my experience with Phoenix Renovations was very concerning, and I feel it is important to share it honestly. During our work with Phoenix Renovations, we were encouraged to leave positive reviews on their business page. Because of this, some of the reviews you see online may not fully reflect people’s genuine experiences. Another issue we encountered was that payments for our work were made through a different company called Built by Dan Limited, rather than through Phoenix Renovations, which was the business we were engaged by. This created confusion about which company was actually responsible for our contract and made it very difficult to resolve matters when we requested the remaining balance after completing the job. Based on what we experienced, subcontractors should be extremely cautious about payment arrangements, and customers should also be aware that payment issues between a contractor and their subcontractors can affect the progress or completion of a project or warranty after. Before starting any work, it is important to clearly confirm which company you are contracting with and how payments will be handled. Because of what happened, I removed my previous positive review and leave with this honest account. If anyone reading this would like more details or wants to understand our experience more fully, feel free to leave your email in a reply and I can share more information privately. I hope this helps others make well-informed decisions.

Dan and his team have completed various full renovation projects for us on alot of our Auckland sites. Every job has been completed on time, on budget and have exceeded all expectations relating to quality and finishes. I couldn't recommend Dan and his team highly enough. For any job big or small, give him a call. They go above and beyond everytime.

I do not recommend this builder based on my experience. I paid a $17K deposit on the 15th October 2025 to start renovating my kitchen. Dan/Omid Rastkar repeatedly assured me, including at the quoting stage, that my kitchen would be completed before Christmas. This was the main reason why I chose to proceed with him. However, to date, NO WORK has been done on my kitchen and I have NOT RECEIVED ANY OF THE MATERIALS OR SERVICES listed on the invoice outlined what my deposit would cover. I have made multiple attempts to contact Dan by phone and email, but he has not responded. The last communication I had with him by phone he told me he had a funeral he attended up north, then became very unwell following that, I then requested to have my deposit refunded in which he said he would payback. From that day Dan and his partner Taisha Stephens have stopped all contact with me and I still haven't received by $17K back. This situation has caused significant stress and financial pressure. I am now taking further action to recover my money and I strongly encourage anyone considering this builder to insist on a WRITTEN CONTRACT and obtain CLEAR TIMELINES before making any payments to him.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Dan at Phoenix Renovations, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. From the very beginning, Dan was incredibly professional, approachable, and responsive to all my questions. He went above and beyond to provide thoughtful advice on the best steps to take, particularly as I was considering adding an extra shower room on the ground floor for my elderly mum, who is preparing for knee surgery. His guidance gave me real peace of mind, especially as I’m based in the UK and don’t have much experience with renovations here in Auckland. What really stood out was Dan’s ability to make a potentially overwhelming project feel stress-free. He listened carefully, offered practical solutions, and always responded promptly and clearly. It’s rare to find someone who combines such technical expertise with genuine care for the client’s needs. I’m confident that when the time comes, Dan and his team will carry out this project with the same professionalism and dedication they’ve already shown.
