We would not recommend Tony based on our experience with two separate jobs. Communication was inconsistent, and when issues arose, responsibility was shifted elsewhere. Both jobs felt rushed, with limited consultation, and several details were not completed to our expectations. In the first job he was attending a funeral, so we initially assumed the communication issues were due to that, but the same pattern continued on the second job. The second job involved a small leak around a downpipe in a flat roof. After the area was opened up, the damage appeared minor, but the home was not adequately protected from rain. Water entered the room twice, leading to ceiling staining and damage that required a full ceiling replacement and additional roof work. Tony advised us to withdraw our insurance claim and later charged us for all labour and materials, covering only a couple of subcontractors. If you choose to work with him, we would strongly recommend getting everything in writing and checking all details carefully

Our experience with this company was extremely poor from start to finish. We would not recommend them to anyone. It takes a lot for me to leave a negative review, so this alone says a lot. - We hired Clever Building by Tony in early September to do exterior iron cladding and flashings for our small architectural new build on our property. We decided to go with Tony as he was able to get the job done sooner than anyone else who quoted, and we needed the job done by late October. He appeared confident that he could do the job, even when we made it clear it was a tricky one. We paid an very big deposit to get the job secured, and he then ordered ‘all’ of the materials. This is where it all started to go wrong. The materials he ordered were incorrect from the start. The sheets were ordered in bulk and dumped in a very inconvenient place, the flashings were the wrong size, any work his team did was rough and not up to council code. We had a council inspection for the flashings which failed as they were nailed wrong and needed removing. When his team removed these, the batons, building paper and flashings were all damaged so needed repurchasing. Tony blamed our builder for this… when his workers installed them. One of the many examples of deflection and blame shifting we saw. The bottom flashings were ordered wrong and not as per the council approved plans. Instead of admitting his mistake and ordering new correct ones, he blamed the architect for doing it wrong, and called him to have the plans changed (which was another cost to us and not something we wanted!). When we asked Tony to order the correct ones, we were told it would take 2 weeks for them to arrive. This is just one of the many lies we were told, as the new company we hired to take over ordered them and had them onsite in less than 24hrs. Essentially, every single thing they did in the 2.5 months on-site (which wasn’t much!) was wrong. 2 sheets of cladding installed - wrong. Corner flashings - wrong. Window flashings - wrong. Bottom flashings - wrong. The new company we had take over said “this is one of the worst examples we’ve seen”. When we told Tony this, he said “yes, and they are referring to the roof which was not done by us.” For reference - the roof was done by another company earlier this year, and it passed council inspection first go. We’ve had many tradies inspect it and can’t find any fault. The new company were referring directly to the flashing and cladding work Tony’s team had done, not the roof. Another example of Tony’s blame shifting and e and co planning about everyone else’s work except his own (which was by far the worst we have ever encountered.) We reached out to Tony and Bronwyn directly to attempt a fair resolution, but their response was shocking. They took their time to reply, then blamed anyone and everyone they could, right down to the rain and the mud on site? No accountability, no apology, and no professionalism or ownership about any of this. Their workers are young, inexperienced, being charged out at premium rates for less than premium workmanship. We expected Tony to be leading the job, but he was nowhere to be seen and did zero actual work on the house as far as we’re aware. Our on site cameras documented his workers angle grinding the iron cladding, which anyone in the industry should know is a big no no! This is serious as it instantly voids warranties and is a direct breach of the manufacturers instructions. All in all, VERY poor experience and we regret our decision to use these guys. We hired a new company to take over and they completed the job almost instantly, and it looks incredible. We’re in the process of laying a formal complaint, as it really was that bad. Steer very clear and spend your money elsewhere. Our big deposit paid for some incorrect and damaged materials, and to pay his workers to install, remove, damage, install, remove, ponder, scratch head, play on phone, then leave everyone else to clean up their mess (literally and figuratively) - such a joke. We’d give 0 stars if we could.

Tony & his team were awesome to deal with. They worked with us on some significant repair work to our house. His work was completed to a high standard, reliable & good communication. I wouldn't hesitate to work with him & his team again!

Tony is amazing. As a family we wanted a wooden casket so that we could paint it as part of our grieving process. We wanted rope handles which Tony sorted for us. They delivered the casket to us to paint, and then picked it up and delivered it to the funeral home. Really lovely guy and really great to deal with. Thank you Tony and team 😊
