Re-do shower tiling and waterproof to get consent

Previous owner renovated bathroom without consent. As there is a wet shower with tiling, this needs to be redone to meet Building Act. Council has informed me only the shower will need to be redone - rest of the bathroom renovation is exempt under Schedule 1 of the Building Act. Will involve pulling out the tiles and redoing the waterproofing. It is an open shower and the tiles continue through the bathroom - so need advice on how to redo just the shower tiling whilst leaving the rest in tact. Have some questions about the drain as well, and how this might be improved. If this work could be done in Feb-March (while flatmates are away) this would be ideal.
