Water ingress after heavy rain

After the recent heavy rains (Monday the 6th) our hallway at the bottom of our stairs flooded. The water is getting in under the wooden stairs. We need to find out how the water's getting in and prevent it from happening again. The carpet has been removed as it was damaged.
