Job description

Geotechnical Engineer
Auckland

Published: 29 June 2022

I have a small residential job in Remuera at an existing large 1960's home on 3 levels. I would like some engeering assistance regarding a 800mm to 1000mm high cut slope bank that is approximately 6 metres wide located under the house, at the back. The 30 degree stable sloping bank (Page 4 of the COA pdf's) was recently cut back up to 600 mm at the base of the slope with some material removed. The purpose was to gain access to waterproof a low level (600mm) cement block building wall as advised by an ex AKL Council Building Inspector who is producing a COA Authors Report for acceptance of minor unconsented building works from circa 2005. This building remedial work is now complete. The intention was to backfill after the remedial building work with a 800 mm high Firth concrete block wall to tidy up the area. The exposed vertical bank is dry and appears to be stable comprising undisturbed solid clay with small to 100mm diameter volcanic rocks typical of Mount Hobson. The scope of work is likely to be: Visual appraisal of the cut slope / exposed bank. Retaining solution (if required). Council may require a letter of appraisal by qualified person to attach to the COA application. Refer photos attached. Thank you.
