After leaving school I gained an apprenticeship and have now been in the trade for 35 years. I have seen a lot of change and have worked on all sorts of jobs in the industry. This has been both in residential and commercial brick and block-laying. From bricks and blocks in Auckland, Skyscrapers in Sydney, and a stonemason in Russell - I have enjoyed it all. My names is Nicolas Piveteau, a french artisan stonemason living and working in New Zealand.
I began an apprenticeship at age 15 and 17 enrolled with the Compagnon du Devoir, the French craftsmen and artisan training organisation dating back to the middle ages.
Training with the Compagnon required a commitment of 9 years during which I travelled throughout France learning about many different styles, methods and materials.
In 2011 I made New Zealand my home with my kiwi wife,Angela .
