Remove gas fire and replace roofing iron

Job description

New & Replacement Metal Roof
Christchurch

Published: 2 February 2011

We have a Masport gas fire with a flue that rises vertically from the lounge, through the ceiling and through the roof space and roofing iron. We'd like to remove the gas fire, including the flue, and then have the roofing iron that the flue passes through replaced. We will handle the gib, plastering and painting in the lounge. The house is --- vintage and the roof iron is green Coloursteel - I've been told the colour is 'Forestwood green'; but the new iron would need to be colour matched to the roof anyway I expect. The gas feed can be pulled back into the ceiling space and snipped off near where the external gas bottles are stored - we will re-use the gas connection for a new gas hob in the kitchen in the future - no gas bottles are connected at present. Connect a draw wire to the gas pipe before pulling it back so we can use in the future for installing cabling down the wall in the lounge. There is a redundant hot water spout that is not connected and vents through the roof. Please advise if this is worth removing and patching the roof iron too.

Even with the February earthquake in Chch and with his own house severely damaged, Tom was still able to come and do my relatively unimportant job with the utmost professionalism.
