Adding a back to a kitchenrtte so that it is an island, and adding a benchtop

I bought a kitchenette with the intention to add a back and reuse my bench to make it an island. Now it has arrived, there is more involved in completing this job than what I understood when I bought it. There is approximately 13mm gap to the backing as the edges overhang by about 13mm. The backing is very heavy, so needs placed on floor, aligned, and screwed in on the kickboard with L brackets.
