The plunger that switches between the spout and the showerhead is either broken or worn out, so that when water is diverted to the showerhead, it instead comes out both of them. Leak detection - bathroom

Leak detection - I have a bathroom with a persistent leak that drips into the garage below. We've had a plumber and builder come to assess, but it was not leaking at the time and despite filling the shower up, the leak did not appear and could not be located. However, at times it pours into the garage below, but we can't tie this to anything in particular eg. showering.
