Guide To Hiring Wellington Plasterboard Professionals

Cracks on your interior walls? Need smooth walls for painting? Find out how to hire Wellington’s best plasterboard professionals today!

DIY might be in our blood, but sometimes our results leave a lot to be desired. Plasterboard is one of those things best left to the experts. It requires a perfect finish and unfortunately it is easy to make a mistake while fixing and stopping. Luckily we have found Wellington’s best plasterboard professionals for you. With their many years of experience and trade qualifications, we are sure you’ll agree they are fantastic too.

Jobs Plasterboard Professionals Do

Within our capital there are plenty of drywall experts to choose from. Some are able to supply, fix and stop your GIB®. Others will instead refer you to a plasterer for stopping. When asking for quotes for your plastering job, you will need to be specific. Are you wanting supply and fixing of the plasterboard only, or do you also need the plastering done? The more detailed you can be with your job, the more accurate your quotes will be from our tradies.

Plasterboard Fixing

Whether you are needing new GIB® installed or want to repair the existing, choosing the right drywall type is vital. When you hire a Hutt Valley or Kapiti Coast plasterboard installer, they can help you choose the best type of drywall for each room. Bathrooms need plasterboard which will not break down in damp and humid conditions. Rooms with wall tiles will require a more rigid type of drywall. Wood burners will need fire resistant plasterboard installed next to it to meet building regulations. Play it smart, hire an expert to install the right GIB® for your job.

Properties with significant renovations happening will often replace rather than repair plasterboard. It can be cheaper and easier to start with fresh and smooth plasterboard when it is old and damaged. Sometimes renovations require large holes to be made for wiring and tradespeople access. Replacing the plasterboard is the more common option when that happens.

As plasterboard also becomes more common in new builds as a structural component, expert knowledge is essential. With each type of wall bracing unit needing a specific plasterboard type, only an experienced installer can make the best decisions on which type to use. This makes DIY plasterboard jobs a costly and dangerous thing to undertake yourself.

Plasterboard Stopping

After your GIB® is fixed, it will need to be stopped. This involves plastering over any holes, cracks or dents to get a smooth, flat surface. A level 4 or a level 5 finish is most commonly used in the plasterboard industry. Level 4 requires that joints are covered with tape and that screw and nail holes are plastered over. A level 5 finish requires a thin skim of plaster over the entire surface of the plasterboard. A level 5 is recommended on walls which are going to have a lot of artificial or natural light upon them. Your local Wellington plasterboard professional will be able to help you identify what level finish your walls will need.
