Hallway ceiling plastering

Our hallway ceiling has some old cracks and a few holes needing to be plastered. This is just for the flat part of the ceiling and not for the ornate cornice. Not sure if it needs to be just skimmed in patches or skimmed over the whole flat part. I don’t expect this to be a big job. Total length and width of the flat part is approximately 4.8m x 1m. Note: Ceiling is 3.1m high as an old home.
