Connection between cold water tap and washing machine inlet hose

My washing machine only washes clothes using hot water, and I found out recently that it is because the inlet hose is only connected to the hot water but not the cold water. I would like the hot water to be turned off and the inlet hose to be connected to the cold water tap please. I do not need hot water for it. Might need help from either a plumber or someone who does repairs for washing machines. It is greatly appreciated if it can be completed before holiday.
