Repair or remove a slightly rotten wooden step. Build a new one if necessary.

Check the wooden step of a door opening outdoors and work out where the rain comes in. The step has become soft at the non hinge side (where the paint has been removed) but most of the step is solid. Sometimes the carpet just inside the door becomes damp. Perhaps the door needs some kind of tape providing an overlap between the door and the lintel? There is a gutter in the terrace just below the step (under the grill) so perhaps the moisture comes up from there? I would like the work done in the next four weeks.
