Install dog door

Looking to have a dog door installed but due to the current format of the door either the glass will have to be extended lower, or the wooden section extended higher (preference). We would supply the dog door. Have attached a photo and mock up of the two options. Preference is to use existing glass if possible. If not possible my understanding is that safety glass would be required.
