Gate in deck railing

During Covid lock down, last year, we had to cut a hole in the railing of our deck for access. It's time to tidy up this work and put in a proper hinged gate. I still have the removed timber section. It could probably also use a single step on the back side, too, assuming it is possible to hang a tread off the deck without having to put down additional piles? Would love to seek advice before committing to that part. :) Time frame: ideally this week, if possible.
