I think concreting would be preferable, but a wooden deck is an option. The photos will show what I mean more clearly than I can describe. At present there's a curved concrete path in front of the house, an area of gravel and a narrow strip of garden in front of the sitting room. Weeds keep coming up through the gravel (I could pull them out and/or spray them but my garden is already more than enough for me, nor do I need the strip of garden - I moved the rose bushes etc the other day to other parts of the garden). What I'd like is somewhere to sit outside - so I wondered if this area in front of the sitting room could be concreted as far as the path, and made level (to be sittable on), which would mean it would need to be raised towards the south end. I hope I've explained myself adequately. My adult daughter says a wooden deck would be better, but it seems to me that this would be awkward because of the curved path - I'd like whatever it is to extend right to the path so I don't need to worry about weeds. Anyway, if tradespeople would be interested in coming along at a suitable time, having a look and giving me their ideas and, if interested, quotes, that would be great. I don't know the relative costs of concreting versus a wooden deck - that could be a factor.

Excellent work. I highly recommend Richard Letica's workmanship and professionalism. He responded promptly, kept to the quoted cost, was right on schedule and was friendly and competent throughout. I am very pleased with the finished deck.
