Small slab to sit a spa on

Job description

General Concreting
Wellington

Published: 13 October 2019

Hi - I've got an almost 3m x 3m level area I'm wanting concreted to sit a spa pool on. I built a retaining wall around it and filled it with loose stone about 2 years ago, so it should be well settled. The stone sits about 10cm from the top of the retaining wall... so about a cubic meter of concrete required by my reckoning (but I'm no expert). As it will be a wet area we aren't looking for a super smooth finish and we'd hope the finished slab could show a bit of the aggregate. In an ideal world, quite a dark finish to the cement would be nice. Time is flexible (as I say, it's been a couple of years already)… and the wife hasn't ok-ed the pool yet! But before Christmas would be nice. An outside tap is about 6-8 meters from area; power is available in an adjacent shed (3 or so meters). Area is at rear of our property, and access is on the flat but path is only about 1.5m wide - so no vehicle access is possible. It's about 20 meters from the street access at the front of our house to this area to be concreted at the rear.

Communications was strong in the period leading into winning the job, but then fell away and they didn't keep me well informed. They did do the job on the day at the time allotted, but didn't give themselves any time to prep the site well. They were very rushed as concrete arrived before many of their crew did. Concrete quality was fair (there were some areas that looked inconsistent). On being asked they applied a wash and created 'wet look' - but that was an added charge.
