Fireplace Adjustment

I want to "shorten up" the height of the gas fireplace ( see pic), and also remove the connecting lintel connecting it to the nearby wall, leaving a free standing small fireplace. This will involve some reasonably precise concrete cutting, and care not to crack or damage the remaining lower remaining structure of the fireplace. Also tidy up the with plaster the lintel end after removal. (I will get a flashing made up to cap off the fireplace after the work has been done.)
