I have been asked to arrange for repairs to the soffit, fascia and spouting on the east side, second storey, of the Petone Rowing Club building at 160 The Esplanade, Petone. As you will see from the photos, parts of the soffit, fascia, and guttering, have fallen down or been removed before they fell down. This was caused by a combination of sand and birds-nest build-up, corrosion of steel fixings, and the weight of several fluorescent lights (now removed). The building is historic, but has a planned major upgrade and earthquake strengthening within the next 2 to 3 years, so the repairs need to be functional and unobtrusive, but not necessarily historically authentic. A further complication is that this part of the building is tenanted by The Foreshore Cabaret cafe upstairs and in the glazed lean-to below, and work must not impede their access (the 2 black windows between the Gelato signs open to form a take-away kiosk). The glazed roof of the lean-to will need protecting, and although the removal of dangerous bits was done from a cherry-picker, this roof is lightweight and not capable of bearing much load, so repairs will need more substantial scaffolding. I would welcome expressions of interest in this job. Onsite inspections are advised, and would not need internal access, but I am happy to meet contractors onsite by arrangement.
