Concrete base of deck post

One of the posts supporting our deck is rotting where it meets the ground. The concrete boot has broken away, and the wood is floating freely now. We've been told we need a box built around the foot of this post, with a concrete base encasing the wood. I expect a deeper hole will need to be dug and a box built up around the remaining post before concreting it to ensure it takes the weight of the deck properly.

Garry repaired one of the poles on our deck and we were very happy with the service. He was prompt and kept to the quote. He listened well to what we were after before deciding on a plan for undertaking the work. When I had questions during it he was more than happy to discuss and amend his plan to work in with us. We would definitely use Garry again.
