Platform/loft bed and desk

I have a small bedroom with a high ceilling and would like to build a platform to fit a double mattress (or at least king single) with a desk underneath and steps up to the platform. A side light for the bed and reading light for the desk would be great if possible. There is a window on one one wall and the room is rectangular. I think it would be good where the cupboards are now (see attached photos) but happy to take advice.
