Installing shelves + making a desk + garden planter box

Hello. I have taken some free-hanging (?) shelves from my Mother's house (see photo of them at her house) that I want to install at my house. The shelves need to be cut down to size to fit in a small alcove next to fire place. I would also like a desk to go with the shelves - it could potentially be made using the shelves we already have. I have a couple of other jobs that need doing too - a garden planter box and shelves for the laundry cupboard built and installed.
