Cutting & resurfacing part of shelf for TV

Hello, we have this built-in shelf unit with a TV space in the centre. The TV space is slightly too short (height-wise) to fit a 55" TV, I need solutions for modifications to gain 10-20mm in height. The easiest solution I can think of is to shave down the lower shelf. Either side of the TV centre are sliding doors that can slide in to hide the TV so that would mean a gap is shown below when closed.
