Project description

Heat Pump Upgrade Co replaced four existing single-split heat pumps with two Mitsubishi Electric ducted systems in this character villa in Riccarton, Christchurch.
The new layout provides two independently controlled areas, allowing the living spaces and bedrooms to be heated or cooled separately to suit the household’s routine.
• Kitchen, dining and living: Mitsubishi Electric PEAD-M71JAA, providing 8.0 kW heating and 7.1 kW cooling capacity.
• Four bedrooms: Mitsubishi Electric PEAD-M125JAA, providing 14.0 kW heating and 12.5 kW cooling capacity.
Each system has its own Mitsubishi Electric PAR-41MAA wired controller and Wi-Fi control.
The villa’s 3.3-metre ceilings required careful consideration of airflow and outlet selection. We used a combination of 200 mm and 250 mm Downjet diffusers, with three large hinged filter return grilles providing filter access.
Installation involved careful cutting of the existing lath and plaster ceilings, with dust control and protective equipment used throughout this work. The bedroom indoor unit was positioned above the hallway to help minimise noise in sleeping areas.
A considered upgrade that brings discreet, whole-home heating and cooling to an established Christchurch villa.
