Project

A rooftop garden no-one wants

Project description

Wellington’s wind will blow dirt and seeds almost anywhere. Even houses without surrounding trees are prone to gutter blockages. Once blocked, rainwater overflows, causing damage to roofs, walls, foundations, and landscaping. And 10-20 kg of dirt and plant material, when wet, will weigh enough to permanently buckle or break the gutter it’s sitting in. The first seven months in 2026 have seen our city hit by four ‘once in ten years’ weather events, so keeping gutters clear is becoming even more of a priority. Where possible, Southerleigh uses anchors and harnesses for roof access – a safe, fast and cost effective alternative to scaffolding or an EWP.
