Project

Coastal Structural Infill, Framing & Premium Solid Plastering – Muriwai

Project description

We were contracted to undertake a complex structural alteration and exterior cladding renovation on this architectural Muriwai home. Facing intense coastal wind and salt spray, the project involved closing in an open veranda corner using lightweight concrete blocks, optimizing internal insulation, and delivering a flawless, weather-tight plastered finish that completely blends into the original building structure.

Key Phases & Work Completed:
Structural Blockwork Infill: Enclosed the exposed open corner using high-performance lightweight blocks, precisely tying them into the existing concrete pillars and headers to form a solid, secure external wall wrapper.

Premium Insulation & Internal Framing: Set up heavy-duty internal timber framing and packed the cavity with premium insulation bats to dramatically improve the home’s thermal envelope and acoustics against high coastal winds.

Multi-Stage Base & Plaster Prep: Applied structural mesh, expansion joints, and base coat plaster layers over the blockwork to prevent cracking and guarantee absolute structural integrity.

Seamless Texture & Paint Match: Finished with a specialized sponge-texture exterior plaster coating and premium exterior paint, flawlessly blending the new corner with the existing structure's age, color, and texture.

The Coastline Challenge: Building on a Muriwai cliffside demands absolute weatherproofing precision. Our system ensures this brand-new wall transition looks completely original while offering maximum resistance against moisture ingress and salt corrosion.
