Fireplace Cladding Schist Stone – Remuera

Project Overview
We took a standard, bare-board outdoor fireplace insert and transformed it into a stunning, rustic backyard centerpiece. By expertly cladding the structure in natural schist stone, we elevated the entire decking and outdoor cooking area, matching the existing pizza oven setup perfectly.

What We Did:
Substrate Preparation & Waterproofing: Prepped the cement-board structure, ensuring stable anchoring points and proper weatherproofing to handle intense heat and outdoor elements.

Hand-Selected Schist Stonemasonry: Individually selected and meticulously laid natural grey split-stone schist, creating an authentic, rugged dry-stack look with tight, clean joints.

Cantilevered Hearth Integration: Tied the stone neatly around a thick, polished concrete hearth slab for a seamless, heavy-duty finish.

Durability Built-In: Used premium, high-flexibility, heat-resistant stone adhesives to ensure the stonework handles both open flames and harsh Kiwi winter weather without cracking.

The Result: A premium, durable outdoor fireplace that adds massive aesthetic appeal and value to the property—built to host family BBQs and fireside evenings for decades.
