This renovation aimed to bring new life into what was a 1960s suburban home. The home had served the family well but the clients felt it was time to revitalise a tired exterior and upgrade the interior to meet the needs of modern life. The home, originally a Lockwood construction, received a full renovation inside and out. The interior was organised to celebrate the views of this privileged beach location with soft, warm materials enhancing the homely feel within. The building performance was also significantly improved with new cladding, roofing, insulation, windows and doors. For Modal, this was an exciting opportunity to assist our clients in achieving their vision of a beautiful renovation to be enjoyed for years to come.
This large single level home captures the view with a promenade entrance with a cantilevered canopy, the front doors open to an oversized hallway staring out through a wall to wall, floor to ceiling single pane facing the Marlborough Sounds in the distance, with Porirua lagoon below. The master suite, an exclusive private experience separated from the rest of the home, contains its own study, wardrobe, an ensuite with a walk-in shower looking out through a floor to ceiling window to the South Island to create a magical experience for the parents to relax away from the kids play spaces. To the end of the house, the lounge, main bathroom, and bedrooms take in the views leaving the central axis of the home to indulge in entertainment spaces to the east and west to capture the views, the sun, and shelter from the Wellington wind on any given day.
Our client was clear about the grand scale of this home with a large open plan living, dining and kitchen space, expansive outdoor entertaining spaces, and large glazing facing the beach views, this home is made to entertain and spend long summer days in. This home stretches 45m along with the site on an east to the west axis with three 'wings' housing three elements of living. To the west, a large garage and games room with an in-house bar lives happily with its own deck out to the lawn. The central space was designed for living and entertaining with spacious indoor and outdoor areas. The east wing, for bedrooms, a home office, and the Master Suite - featuring a private lounge and library nook, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite. Built with the future in mind, this home is for generations to come.
