Designed around a steep, south-facing site with an easement running down the center. These two units are designed with maximum living in minimal space. With a view that looks over the historic Town Hall while still providing privacy. The large skylights provide all-day sun and sky views to all living areas. Both units are connected by timber decking which can be removed to allow access to the services below.

Valley Extension

A finished extension for a busy family. Space for the music room, the dirty sports boots, and the new bathroom with a central skylight over the bath was the brief. This extension maximized the use of the site building to follow the line of the boundary, creating complicated junctions where new met old, we faced the challenge of detailing this home to have all the same materials throughout. Out the North, this extension capitalized on the sun and views over North East Valley. New paint and a larger kitchen to the existing house have really transformed this 1940s home to suit the modern requirements of a growing family.

East Taieri House

They supplied a list of “non-negotiables” and “negotiables” and we’re happy to say that all the “non-negotiables” and 90% of the “negotiables” were achieved and within budget. The main living and kitchen were moved from the rear (South) side of house and encompassed within the North-facing extension. Internal layout was revised and all bedrooms were provided with double glazing, new carpet and above code insulation. The primary goal was an improved standard of living for a growing family. We designed the spaces to allow for a more inclusive style of living while still maintaining a separation of spaces. Double-glazed external joinery and maximum insulation were also specified. The clients were absolutely fantastic throughout and as designers they were a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do.
