Down pipe replacement for diverter for water tank. Could lead to a big job.

We bought a water tank and down pipe water diverter (manual) and connected it up. Unfortunately its not holding up too well ! :) Need some one with spouting knowledge to replace the down pipe (square shaped) and fix it completely. so the diverter can be switched on and off without water going everywhere. Photo attached. ** Please note: If this job is done to my satisfaction this job could lead to a much bigger job which is 3/4 of the house which needs new guttering. All as per Builderscrack guidelines. --- please.
