Fix 40*40cm cutout in ceiling

We have a hole in the ceiling of our apartment which was cut out to gain access to a leak (which turned out to be in the ranch slider above and has been fixed). The hole is about 40cm square but a little more water damaged gib will need to be removed. Then it needs to be filled, gib-stopped and painted. The ceiling is standard ceiling white. One factor is that there's a monitored smoke/heat detector right next to the cutout and we need to inform the monitoring company if it's disconnected.
