We have recently purchased a 1940's weatherboard ex-statehouse, and are looking into getting the chimney and fireplace in the lounge removed. We have a quote for removal (which includes patching the roof), but will need to engage someone to remove the last of the existing plasterboard(?) each side of the chimney (this has a couple of electrical outlets, so I assume we will also need to engage an electrician), and patch up the holes left in the ceiling, wall and floor from where the chimney passes through - additional structural support may be required e.g. new floor joists. No specific urgency, but would like to get this done in the next few months if possible.
