I require some remedial work done to the deck area of an upstairs flat. The problem is showing itself as rust through the concrete, I've had a metal expert take a look and he's said it's a problem with canter levering ribs which the concrete floor was poured on and that they are integral to the structure of the deck and that because the ribs go up into the concrete they cant be just cut off and replaced. He's suggested that any new steel that is fixed to the underside will eventually rust because the front edge is exposed and there is nothing to fix to and there is a risk of it falling. He's suggested that the rusted parts be removed and then treated with a rust inhibitor, then all the panels be rendered over with an exterior plaster and that a solid plasterer would be required to repair this.
